Assigning Territory Alignments

Once an alignment has been created, it is ready for editing.

In this guide, you'll learn how to edit an alignment to build out your rep hierarchy and assign territories for reps across the US.

Get Started

Find an alignment you wish to edit in the alignments list. Click the Actions dropdown and select Edit beneath the Mapped Territories section.

Assignment Workflow

The process for editing an alignment can be broken down into 3 primary steps:

  1. Build out the rep hierarchy
  2. Assign territories to reps
  3. repPublish map changes to make them live

Rep Hierarchy

The rep hierarchy is constructed in the left sidebar. Here, reps must be added, starting from the highest ranking level.

Here, Emily Richardson is added as a Regional Manager, the highest ranking level on the map.

Now that Emily has been added, we add James Carter, who is a District Manager that reports directly to her.

Finally, let's add Michael Bennet, an Area Manager that reports directly to James Carter at the District Manager level.

In summary, we have now built up a simple hierarchy with reps at each of the 3 levels in the alignment.

Assigning Territories

Now that our rep hierarchy has been established, we can begin to assign territories to our reps.

Important points regarding Territory Assignments:

  • Changes made to assignments do not affect commissions until they are published
  • A single territory is equivalent to a single postal code
    • Currently, only US territories are supported
  • Territories are only directly assigned to reps at the bottom level
  • Reps inherit the territories of reps that they manage

In our example, James Carter and Emily Richardson both inherit territories assigned to Michael Bennet.

Selecting Territories

To begin assigning territories, we need to first be able to select them on the map.

Territories can be selected using various methods.

Direct selection

Territories can be directly selected on the map. Depending on the current zoom level, territories can be selected by * state* or by postal code. Selecting a state simply selects all of the postal codes that belong to that state.

For example, below we select Texas while zoomed out. Then, we can zoom in to select specific territories in Oklahoma.

To unselect a territory, simply click a territory that is already selected.

Custom boundaries

Draw a custom boundary on the map by selecting and dragging a region while holding the Shift key.

To unselect, hold the Shift+Cmd key while dragging.

Finally, we can simply search for the territories we would like to select. Territories can be searched by postal code *, *city, state and sales rep level.

First, click the Search button or press Cmd+K to open the search dialog.

Assigning Territories to Rep

Once territories are selected we can now assign them to a rep, or un-assign them from a rep.

With the territories selected, click the Assign button and select the rep to assign the territories to.

Here, we can now assign the territories to Michael Bennet. After selection, notice that the territories are now shaded in the color we selected when we added Michael to the rep hierarchy. Also, we can see that the territories are assigned to him when the mouse is hovered.

Un-assigning Territories from Rep

Similarly, we can un-assign the territories from a rep by selecting the territories first and selecting the reps we would like to unassign.

For example, we can undo the previous assignment to Michael Bennet by selecting him in the rep hierarchy to select his territories, and then clicking the Unassign button.

Publishing Updates

Once we are satisfied with the assignments we have made, we can simply publish the changes to affect commissions moving forward.
