Products

When setting up products for your eCommerce store, there are many different ways to configure how each product is priced as well as who sees what pricing.

Flat Pricing

On the most basic level, you are able to set the default product pricing across both Velocity and your storefront from within the product information page in BigCommerce. There, you will find a Default Price input box where you can enter your desired price for the product. This price, without any additional customization or modifiers, will be displayed for all users in Velocity as well as customers on your storefront.

Bulk-Pricing

Bulk Pricing allows you to set quantity-based discounts on products. Adding the specified quantity of products to the cart automatically applies the respective discount. These discount types include:

  • Discount % — Applies a percent discount on the total product price if a certain amount of products has been added to the cart.
  • $ Off/Unit — Reduces the fixed amount of items if a certain amount of products has been added to the cart.
  • $ Fixed Amount — Assigns a fixed price to a product when a quantity threshold is met.

Customer Group Pricing

Customer Groups give you the ability to classify customers in certain groups and determine if they receive discounts on products. Additionally, Customer Groups can restrict certain customers from being able to see/order specific products from the storefront. Below are a few examples of what Customer Groups can offer...

  • Loyalty Group — Give specific customers a set discount on a select number (or all) products in your catalog
  • Tax Exempt Group — Offer certain customers an exemption to be taxed on orders (recommended only for Government Agencies or Nonprofits)
  • Wholesale Group — Restrict retail customers from having access to certain categories or products
  • Members-Only Group — Restrict your storefront to only customers who have registered an account

Price Lists

Before using Price Lists, you must first make sure that you have Customer Groups configured. This is because * Price Lists* allow you to set advanced variant-level pricing based on Customer Groups. Once you have set up * Customer Groups, you can then use **Price Lists to establish overrides for those groups on the variant level ( Price Lists* are required to set overrides on the variant level).

Category-Level Discounts

Much like Price Lists, before using Category-Level Discounts, you must first make sure that you have Customer Groups configured. Once created, you may then create Category-Level Discounts. These discounts allow you to set a flat discount across an entire category for a specified Customer Group.

Product-Level Discounts

Similar to Category-Level Discounts, Product-Level Discounts allow you to set a discount on specified products for Customer Groups. Also like Category-Level Discounts, you must first have a Customer Group configured before being able to assign a discount to products for that group.

Product Modifiers

With Product Variants, you are able to nest multiple child products under one parent product and establish different pricing for each child product. An example of this would be if you sold different-sized products on your storefront, but didn't want each size to be priced the same. Instead of creating individual products for each size, you are able to create Product Variants of one product, set a different price for each sized product, and allow your customers to choose which size product they want while proceeding to pay for the price of that product size.

Product Categories

Management

Categories can be managed from within Velocity in the Categories page. There, you are able to see a list of all categories that are currently live.

On this page you can:

  • Add categories
  • Edit an existing category
  • Archive categories

Add Products to a Category

From the categories list, you can click on the category's name to access the Category Details. There, you are able to add or remove specific products to that category.

Archive Categories

Users are able to archive categories that are no longer needed. In order to archive a category, it must not be linked to an alignment.

To archive a category, access the Categories page and click on "Edit" next to your desired category. In the edit modal, click on "Archive...". A warning message will appear to confirm the action, with a list of side effects that will occur if you continue.

  • This category will no longer appear in the list of categories
  • It will only be visible when filtering by archived categories
  • All linked products will be unlinked
  • Commissions will no longer be generated
  • Existing commissions will remain editable

If you are sure that you want to archive the category, you can confirm by clicking on "Archive Category".

To link a recently created category to an alignment, you must first go to the Categories page and click on the category you wish to link. After reaching the Category Details page, click on "Link Alignment" on the left hand side under Management. Once done, you will be met with the following UI:

To configure the alignment correctly, you must first choose a Commission Strategy from the following options:

  • Percentage Commission
  • Customer Group Percentage Commission
  • Base Price Commission

Tip

This selection will determine how commission splits are configured. Each selection will change the UI to fit that strategy.

After choosing a commission strategy, you then choose which Territory Alignment you want the category linked to. Once done, click on "Link Alignment" to confirm your configuration.

View Archived Categories

To view a category that was previously archived, go to Categories within Velocity and then click on the filter button to the left of the "Add Category" button. Then, click on "Show Archived Categories" to show which categories have been archived.

Tip

To unarchive a category, click on "Edit" next to the category you want to unarchive and click on "Unarchive..." within the UI.
