Shipping Overview¶
Velocity's shipping module streamlines your order fulfillment workflow. With Velocity's shipping module, you can shop for rates, print shipping labels, and track delivery statuses without leaving Velocity.
You can find shipping information on the order details page in the shipments section.
Supported Carriers¶
Velocity currently supports the following shipping carriers:
- Stamps.com/USPS
- FedEx
- UPS
- Canada Post
- Australia Post
Tip
To configure one or more shipping carriers, contact MedShift support.
If you need to use a different carrier, Velocity also supports creating a shipment with any shipping carrier by manually entering tracking numbers. However, these shipments will not support all of Velocity's shipping features.
Create a Shipment¶
To create a new shipment, navigate to the order details page and find the shipments section, then select *new shipment *.
Tip
The shipping section is not available for orders that only contain digital items.
Addresses¶
First, select the ship-from address from your company's configured shipping origins. If your company only has one shipping origin, this step is skipped.
To add or change shipping origins, contact MedShift support.
Select add items to continue to the next screen.
Add Items¶
Select the items that you want to include in the shipment. Velocity keeps track of how many of each item have been shipped, and automatically updates the order's status to "shipped" or "partially shipped" accordingly.
For each item included in the shipment, you can also specify additional notes and lot/serial numbers.
Tip
You can require lot/serial numbers to ship a line item on the products page.
Select shipping options to continue to the next screen.
Shipping Options¶
On this screen, you can select the shipping carrier for this shipment:
- Using a supported carrier: When you submit the shipment, Velocity will create a label with the selected carrier and automatically attach the tracking number to the order. Your carrier account will be charged any associated fees for making the label.
- Manually enter tracking numbers: This option allows you to create a shipment with any carrier by manually entering the tracking number. You will need to manually create the label through the carrier's website.
Next, you can configure the packages to include in the shipment. All shipments must contain at least one package, and additional packages can be added by selecting add package (Note that some shipping carriers only support one package per shipment)
You can save frequently-used package sizes as convenient presets when using the "Your packaging" package type. To access the list of presets, select the … button next to the dimensions fields. Select a preset size to apply it.
Labels and Tracking¶
Printing Labels¶
Velocity supports several label types to support the order fulfillment process. All types of labels can be downloaded in PDF format.
Labels may be set to either letter (8.5" × 11") or label printer (4" × 6") sizes. To change the configured label size, contact MedShift support.
Pick slip¶
The pick slip lists currently unshipped items in an order. This is useful to warehouse workers when picking items.
You can download the pick slip by selecting pick slip at the top of the shipments section. If the order has been fully shipped, this option is not available.
Shipping label¶
Each shipment has a shipping label, which is provided by the selected shipping carrier. This should be printed and affixed to each package as required by the carrier.
You can download the shipping label by opening the … menu on a shipment and selecting shipping label.
Tip
Shipping labels are not available for shipments created with manually-entered tracking numbers.
Packing slip¶
Each shipment has a packing slip, which includes a list of all items in the shipment, as well as additional details about the shipment. This is usually printed and included in the package as a receipt for the shipment.
You can download the packing slip by opening the … menu on a shipment and selecting packing slip.
Tracking¶
Each shipment in Velocity will have a tracking number. If your shipment has more than one package, each package may have a different tracking number (depending on the carrier). If available, you can track the shipment on the carrier's website by opening the … menu on a shipment and selecting track with [carrier].
If a shipment is using a supported shipping carrier, Velocity will show the current status of the shipment (e.g. in transit, delivered) in the shipments section.
